TRAINING

Heat Stress In Flying-foxes

Course Overview

All inducted members are welcome and encouraged to attend this course. During a heat stress event, time is critical and its all hands on deck. We need people from all areas to be involved

We will need as many trained people as possible involved this summer.

We’ll review the current procedures during a heat stress event and debrief previous heat stress events to look for improvements.

Additional Training (Optional)

After the heat stress course finishes at 12pm, there will be additional training for Sub Cutaneous Treatment Of Flying-foxes For Vaccinated Carers and an Introduction To Adult Flying-foxes as well.

Sub Cutaneous Treatment Of Flying-foxes for Vaccinated Carers (and those on their way to being vaccinated) will be held straight after the Heat Stress meeting. No additional cost. This will go for 1 hour and will have a practical component.

The Introduction To Adult Flying-foxes component will go for 2 hours and there is no additional cost.  Covered is how to handle adult flying-foxes, rescue from barbed wire, net caught rescues and transportation. There will be an adult flying-fox present for a demonstration.

What is a heat stress event?

When the weather has a run of multiple 38+ degree heat, along with other factors, flying-foxes will likely die from heat stress.

What we can do

  • Follow instruction from co-ordinator to enter the camp and spray water to assist in survival of flying-foxes
  • Take individuals into care who will otherwise die
  • Support vaccinated carers with filling syringes, preparing baskets, documentation, transport to emergency care

Looking forward to having everyone on board
